heard of the movie "Grindhouse"? A double feature film by Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino. i won't go into the technicalities, but...

i just watched it - and i am speechless. in an almost uncertain way. basically, my jaw dropped and i hid behind my fat hands for the first couple of minutes, after which, the ludicrousness and psychopathic humour of the film was just so great, that i ended up enjoying it. it was a weird balance of incredulity and perversity.
so in a nutshell, it's made up of 2 individual films connected by fake movie trailers. both are exploitative films which are characteristic genre of the 1970s. lots of blood, gore, violence etc, but somehow, because it's just so unconventional, ridiculous and funny, i felt as if i was able to go beyond the visual to enjoy the humour behind it all -- to a certain extent. i still cringed plenty plenty.
it was also a box office flop - unfortunately, so they're probably going to release the films individually overseas (have they?), so i'm really glad i got to watch it whole and original.
DEFINITELY NOT for the young and fainthearted. DEFINITELY NOT to be taken seriously (unless you're a film major). but DEFINITELY a great film that stuns you first, then leaves you breathless at the queer mix of tasteful and tastelessness.
