it was graduation last sunday and these are my lovely graduates -

brilliant, brilliant individuals whom i know are going to do great things in the world - for God and for His creation that He so deeply loves.

i read about how China has sentenced its former head of food and drug administration to death for accepting bribes and approving the sale of substandard, fake pharmeceuticals, some of which led to the deaths of several people before the drugs were taken of the market. (http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/05/29/health/main2860989.shtml). i was quite upset by this, and while most of the comments made in the forum were mainly expressed by people who were against capital punishment, the death sentence, or busy comparing the bush administration to china's governance etc, i felt like many people missed the point. this official and his agency - whom china and the world entrusted its fundamental needs to - betrayed his/their integrity for the sake of monetary rewards. and in that, used the lives of others as a game - or gamble. the love of money entices people into a world of corruption - wasn't the bible right in saying that the love of money is the root of all evil? furthermore, their actions have probably affected the country's reputation on the global scale, as negative stereotypes are fueled, and potential investors discouraged by the authorities leading the country.

argh.
