Lying flat on my heated bed will be my downfall i tell you. i never get any work done on it because i always fall asleep! but i have work to do tonight!

2 things: FINAL EXAM SCHEDULE IS OUT! i know when i can fly home! can book ticket liao hohoho... but i'm not looking forward to dealing with e-tickets and stuff. bleah. i have to book from here because i bought a one way ticket coming to the US. migraines are the inevitable result of this.

another thing - we had the author Salman Rushdie come and speak today. He is an awesome speaker. He is also a speaker with a price for his life. He wrote the book 'Satanic Verses' that was published back in 1988 that was deemed blasphemous by Rubollah Khomeini, a late Iranian Spiritual Leader and was issued a 'Hatwa' - which basically condemned him to death (by the law) and deemed him an enemy of all Muslims. There were riots, rebellions, deaths -- apparently the japanese translator for the book was stabbed to death, the italian translator wounded badly. A rich iranian businessman set aside a reward of $3 million for his life and some other 13 -something- religious organisation has another $300000 waiting. and this hatwa is still valid today because only the person who issued it can withdraw it - only that khomeini is dead. no joke eh? so he's been c/o the british secret service and had to go into hiding for some period of time. and even during the speech he mentioned that by being up there (the podium) he was risking his life. which was true. he could get assassinated at any time.

what a speaker - the speech was simply amazing - and focused a lot on the literary freedom of and within a person. very eloquent, very inspiring yet very controversial. but i can see where this man is coming from.

anyhoo... yeah, got lotsa work to get done *sigh.
